Bone the Great Cow Race is the second of Telltale Game's two games based on the cult hit comic series from Jeff Smith. Like most Telltale games, Great Cow Race is an episodic adventure game that requires players to find items and solve puzzles through a point and click interface. It is also much shorter than the typical retail game as it is designed to be only a part of a much larger storyline, though Telltale so far has only released two games as opposed to the standard five to six that typically make up a "season" of games.
Based on the comic volume of the same name, Bone the Great Cow Race sees players controlling all three Bone characters at various points, including Fone Bone, Smiley Bone and Phoney Bone. The story is set around, naturally, a cow race and festival that finds the Bone cousins seeking out different goals. Fone Bone's story revolves around his attempts to win the affection of his love Thorn, while Smiley Bone and Phoney Bone try to con the townspeople in a grand scheme that ultimately backfires. Further complications are provided by Rat Creatures that decide to wreak havoc on the Bone cousins.
Despite the fact that the series seems unfinished, this individual episode of the Bone games is still thoroughly enjoyable for adventure game fans. While the characters are likely unknown to most players, Telltale's unique brand of humor is ever-present in the game and brings a lot of life to Fone Bone and his cousins.
