City Magnate is a PC game with an innovative concept. It is essentially a Monopoly-style game where players attempt to corner the market. However, City Magnate distinguishes itself in its approach. Rather than simply travel around a board buying and selling property, the board also integrates a casino circuit. On this circuit, players will play slot machines, roulette wheels and even cockroach races.
City Magnate has traditional Monopoly-like aspects in addition to the casino circuit. Players will buy properties, shops, hotels, utilities and railroads, and they’ll win and lose money based on the various surprises that befall them. They can also trade properties and resources with other players. City Magnate supports both single player and multiplayer modes. The AI opponents are quite good and handle trading, and they can be used to fill out multiplayer games too. Multiplayer is available locally, via the LAN and online. There’s even a built-in matchmaking service.
