DevastationZone Troopers is a 3D third-person shooter that channels classic shooters, before 3D was all the rage. In other words, DevastationZone Troopers is not an in-depth game. Instead, it’s a non-stop rock ‘n’ roll experience where the player never stops running and never stops shooting.
DevastationZone Troopers does a few things exceptionally well. The 3D rendering is staggeringly good for a free game, and the game runs impressively smooth even when the screen is total chaos, which is often. The game also does a great job of keeping your pulse up and keeping the game varied.
The game does make some sacrifices. There’s very little background. Outside of a mountain here or there, the game simply renders the immediate area. Fortunately, the game isn’t blind to this limitation, and all of the action takes place in your immediate area. So as you play, you won’t even notice it.
DevastationZone Troopers is fast-paced explosive fun. The 3D environment is fully destructible. The enemies are many and diverse. The game boasts 13 original soundtracks that set the mood. There are 50 intense levels, upgradeable weapons and an array of power-ups and other collectibles. There’s also a dropship pilot mini-game between levels that’s actually quite a bit of fun in its own right.
