Doom 3, the third official installment in the Doom series by id games, was released in 2004 and was one of the first games to feature an advanced high dynamic range lighting system (meaning realistic lighting and shadows) to enhance the horror-based first person shooter. The game pits you as an anonymous space marine fighting back the legions of Hell pouring through a base in outer space. As a strict first person shooter, the game is a delight to play, offering many horrifying experiences. There will be scenes when you will be afraid to advance forward because of the creepy atmosphere. However, like any true first person shooter, you can blast away whatever comes to confront you. The story shows some promise at first but begins to fall flat, however. In addition, the levels may become more repetitive as time goes on. Regardless, this game is considered one of the newer "classic" first person shooter games to try if you have not already, and your time will be well-rewarded.
