The original Grand Theft Auto is the penultimate fantasy video game. The game is geared to the adult mind and even offers humor in the midst of the game play. The sound effects are realistic which adds to the emotional feeling and provides the mental escape that players are seeking.
There is no end to the places for action in the game. It's as if the player were right there in the nation's largest metropolis with hidden alleys, culverts, dark corners and spaces under bridges and in parking garages. Just about any type of car can be jacked and there are many ways to win the game.
Players have a varied arsenal that they can use to attack and achieve their missions. There are different missions on each level and many levels of play. Each level takes a while to get through and after a while play can seem a bit tedious. When players find the play to be a little too challenging or are tired of a level, there are some hidden cheat codes to help progress through the level a little faster.
When too many graphics are on the screen, the game may slow down. The graphics are just two dimensional, which was typical of games released at the time but are less than spectacular compared to today's standards. Players cannot save until they have beaten the level, which can result in long playing sessions in order to save any progress.
