Minicraft is a free game created by Notch, the creator of Minecraft. It is a mix of Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda. You can wander around, build structures, and fight enemies. The top down pixel graphics remind you of Zelda, and the collecting and building is straight from Minecraft.
The game itself is a good idea. Who wouldn't want to be able to build and create things in a Zelda-esque world? Unfortunately this game does not have all the great dungeons, puzzles, and characters of Zelda, and the top down view makes building more difficult and less rewarding than in its 3d cousin Minecraft. This makes the game a lot less interesting than it could be and it seems very shallow. Once you build something and kill an enemy or two there is not a lot else to do. One should note that Notch created this game in a 48 hour contest, so it is not from a lack of effort that this game is not all it could be. For two days work, it is an intriguing promise of what Minecraft could have been or could be in the future. Is it also free, so there is no harm in trying it out for a few minutes.
