SpongeBob SquarePants: Monopoly is a SpongeBob-themed version of the classic board game for Windows-based PCs. Monopoly is a Parker Brothers game where players vie to dominate a market, by buying and selling properties, homes, hotels, and charging for utility and railroad use. SpongeBob SquarePants is a cartoon character with an animated television program that is very popular with young children.
For children, classic Monopoly is very dry and possibly complex. So this game uses SpongeBob SquarePants to present the game and these concepts in a way that is accessible to young kids. For instance, the game uses the classic board, but rather than buy locations like Boardwalk and Park Place, the kids buy locations from the SpongeBob SquarePants world. Although the game hosts the actual board, the centerpiece of the game is a view window that lets kids see under the sea and immerses them in a cartoon-like experience.
