Big Fish Studios has become a major name in casual gaming thanks in part to its series of Mystery Case Files games. The second game in the series, Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects combines an interesting mystery story with hidden object puzzles in an unprecedented way. Instead of running down culprits, solving riddles or examining crime scenes, detectives are simply tasked with searching a picture for items from a list. These items are partially camouflaged in the picture itself, making it quite challenge in order to find a particular item. As the puzzles are solved, a small part of the story is unlocked and players move on to the next puzzle.
The main story of Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects revolves around the disappearance of a large diamond, essentially a fictionalized version of the famous Hope Diamond. While on display during an event, one of several different suspects pilfers the massive diamond and you are tasked with solving puzzles in order to find out exactly who it is. In addition to the picture search puzzles, players will find themselves playing several minigames while analyzing clues at the Crime Computer. Since elements of the game are randomized, the replay value of the game is very high.
While the puzzle genre of games may not appeal to everybody, Prime Suspects is worth trying out simply for the engaging mystery story. With high-quality visuals and surprisingly stellar voice acting, there are few games in the genre that can really compete with experience offered by Prime Suspects.
