In “Slenderman's Shadow: Sanatorium,” based on the original game “Slender: The Eight Pages,” you play as an unseen male character walking through the halls of an abandoned asylum, while collecting eight pages to avoid the antagonist, Slenderman. Once you have obtained all of the pages, you will be equipped with a firearm in an attempt to take out the Slenderman.
The game itself is quite scary, as you walk through the dark and creepy sanatorium armed with a flashlight. As its beam reveals the halls you approach in the asylum, the lights inside seem to eerily come on by themselves, giving you a sense of the supernatural and wondering whether the Slenderman or the “shining” sanatorium is behind this. Moreover, as you collect each additional page, the score changes gradually, making it sound eerier throughout the game, and you'll also see more glimpses of the Slenderman, as he pops up more unexpectedly. Slenderman's shocking appearances, his grotesque look --- no face and long tentacle arms --- , and the game's darkening score together add suspenseful tension in the game.
While “Slenderman's Shadow: Sanatorium” is scary, it is not so with a groundbreaking feel. It doesn't give you the sense of being afraid to sleep at night with long tentacle arms coming out of the walls above your bed to reach out and strangle you, and, even if you manage to fall asleep, the game definitely isn't the type to give you nightmares of similar Slenderman scares. Classics from the Doom, Quake, Half-Life, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil series have had much more effects on this level.
Nevertheless, for a game of this type, it's definitely one to download on your computer/laptop. If you want to witness a dark scary environment that seemingly comes to life, an ever-changing errie score, and glimpses of the frightful Slenderman himself, this one's for you.
