Instead of a typical game, DayZ is a modification for Arma II.
This isn't just the simple military game that involves shooting and battling against other people. You're doing battle in a world that is dark and deserted and full of zombies. There are zombies around every corner, which means that it's best to have a few people who are working with you. However, if you work alone, it makes it easier to hide in empty buildings and run from the zombies chasing you. The only thing that you have to worry about while playing is surviving. No matter what you have to do, you need to survive to get to the next levels in the game.
There are options for customizing your character later in the game, and you can find weapons while you're playing. You can also buy weapons once you earn enough money and points. There are numerous cities you'll have to get to, each with its own challenges. Look at the maps to see where the buildings are and where the save points are so that you can save your game instead of starting over if you're killed. Aside from shooting and finding weapons, you also have to find food. At times, there are other people you'll meet on the street. Try to talk to them, and if they seem like they aren't zombies, then link up and go to battle together so that you'll have support. Some of the people you find will kill you just to get your weapons, so watch your back at all times.
