The Fable series is known for it's whimsical take on the fantasy genre. Fable 3 is no different, although there is a significant time gap between Fable 2 and Fable 3. Gone are the horses and heroes of Albion. Now the world is being ushered into an industrial revolution.

Customization is the name of the game when it comes to the Fable series, and Fable 3 does not disappoint. Though you start with a base female or male character, the options beyond make near limitless possibilities for character creation. There are several different hair styles which can be worn across each gender, as well as make up and clothing.

The combat is Fable 3 is fluid and intuitive. The single button interface with multiple weapons and magic works well, though it can take some getting used to if you are not a player returning from Fable 2. The slow motion deaths of enemies adds a sense of excitement to your basic hack and slash gameplay, and the slow motion kill animations are short enough that they do not become tiresome even after you may have seen them hundreds of times.

Staying with the same art style as previous games in the series, Fable 3 is rendered beautifully. Albion is a large world, with various ecosystems to explore. The colors are rich and vibrant in the woods, and subdued and brilliantly understated in the grimier industrial locations.

The voice acting is truly a treat in Fable 3. John Cleese of Mony Python fame voices your character's loyal butler. His dry wit adds a level of humor to the game, making it memorable.

For the first time, the player is able to change the breed of their canine companion. This is just another of the many customization options available in the game.

The story line is much improved from the somewhat lackluster plot in Fable 2. Your character has a history, and a purpose. The supporting cast of characters add more than just quests. Well voiced and well written, these characters just beg to be cared for, adding to the depth of the game.

Fable 3 is a humorous RPG the likes of which hasn't been seen in gaming for many years. The game is remarkable for the fact that it is simple and casual enough to pick up and play whenever you like, but engaging and enjoyable enough that you will keep coming back.
