Billed as a zombie murder simulator, "Facewound" is a free PC video game featuring an armed vigilante slaughtering hordes of flesh-hungry zombies. Programmer Gary Newman teamed with animator Arthur Lee, graphics designer Matthew Schwenk, and sound coordinator Bryn Schurman to release the game under the name Facepunch Studios. Newman built the game from a custom engine, using 3D acceleration to bring a modern feel to the standard 2D, side-scrolling platform shoot 'em up. Along with dynamic ragdoll physics, the game boasts impressive special effects, from water reflection and refraction to explosive shock waves and cascading bullet shell casings.

"Facewound" doesn't require much in the way of strategy. Players simply run and gun their way through levels, using an extensive arsenal of weapons to blast everything in sight. While mowing down enemies, players can collect plutonium, which can then be used to purchase even more zombie-killing devices, meaning there's no end to the destructive mayhem.
