FIFA 2002 Word Cup is a video game developed by EA Sports that lets you experience the action of the 2002 World Cup just like you were there. The game includes all 32 teams that qualified for the event in the real world, plus 9 teams that didn't. The objective of the game is to make your country win the World Cup by beating all of their opponents.

You can play for the World Cup, as well as take part in a variety of other soccer matches, as well as practice. If you haven't played a soccer game on your PC before, playing through the tutorials and practice games is strongly recommended, as they teach you how to control your player and execute a variety of moves, like trying to score a goal or passing the ball to a teammate. Just like during the real championship, you may be penalized by referees if you break the rules of the game.

In terms of realism, FIFA 2002 World Cup outshines many of the other sports games published in its era. The teams, player names and likeness, as well as venues you find in the game all closely resemble the ones from real life. EA Sports even used officially licensed kits when designing the models of players from some participating countries.

As FIFA 2002 World Cup is a retro game, you can't expect the HD graphics that are present in today's games. However, if you want a basic soccer game to play on older hardware, you should give it a go. The game can run on any PC using Windows 98 or higher with at least a 200 MHz CPU, 32 MB of RAM and 4 MB of video memory.

Pros

  • Uses real teams and players from the 2002 World Cup event.
  • Very good graphics and realism for a retro game.
  • Low system requirements mean the game can be played on almost all PCs built after 2000.

Cons

  • Player controls can take some practice to master and are different from other soccer games.
