Built using Sploder, a Web-based game maker, Kill or Be Killed is a throwback game that channels a wide range of arcade classics. The concept is rather simple: The player works his way through a series of mazes of ever-increasing difficulty. Along the way, collectables abound, and those collectables convert into points, health, temporary power-ups, and in some cases, permanent power-ups.
Kill or Be Killed is a chaotic, fast-paced game, and there is a lot going on at all times. Even at the first level, the avatar can’t move its own body length without be ambushed. Fortunately, the ship has built-in radar, and whenever the player settles into a safe spot, he can use the radar to see the layout of the land, identify enemy locations, and plan a route for success.
Kill or Be Killed enemies come in a wide array of mobile and stationary styles. Stationary enemies hit hardest but are relatively easy to avoid, if the player is aware of them. The mobile units don’t hit hard, but they do hit fast and they tend to travel in ferocious packs. As with all Sploder games, the AI is not great, but Kill or Be Killed uses that to its advantage in a number of clever ways.
