At the time of its release, Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude was notable for being the first new Leisure Suit Larry game in nearly eight years. Unlike the previous seven games in the series, Magna Cum Laude features 3D graphics and a new iteration of Larry, Larry Lovage. Like the other Leisure Suit Larry games, Magna Cum Laude places emphasis on nudity, sex, and raunchy humor that is generally uncommon is most videogames. Some of the content is so adult, in fact, that there are two versions of the game; a censored version and an "uncut" edition.
The story of Magna Cum Laude finds players guiding Larry Lovage to his ultimate goal of being a contestant on a dating-style game, Swingles, by wooing his female peers at the college he attends. In order to impress the host of Swingles enough to earn a spot on the show, Larry must successfully seduce a number of different women to win tokens of affection from them. The game, like previous Leisure Suit Larry games, plays like an adventure game where certain items must be acquired in order to progress. This gameplay is freshened up a bit by the addition of several minigames like dancing, chatting and a virtual version of the drinking game Quarters.
Fans of outrageous humor and adventure games will likely love Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude. While it lacks some of the charm of the previous games in the series, there is still more than enough fun here to entertain Larry's biggest fans.
