Magicka is a fun and innovative action-RPG. It offers a unique spell casting system as the core of its gameplay. Each of several different elements is bound to a keyboard button, and tapping them builds up charges to cast a spell in either shield, wall or attack formation. Add in a story full of over the top situations and references to generations of nerd culture and you have a recipe for an excellent game.
Unfortunately, for being a small game Magicka is big on system resources, rendering clouds of particle effects for up to four co-op players at once. Coupled with an array of bugs and glitches still being worked out, and Magicka ends up a less than enthralling experience.
Magicka is still a good fun time when played with one or two friends, while a full four tends to get crowded with friendly fire. As long as everyone has a decent computer and Internet connection, the game runs mostly fine and is a fun party experience. The spell casting system is unique and interesting, and it's full of new spell combinations to try out. Definitely worth picking up for a few solid hours of fun, overlooking a few bugs.
