Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition is among the best fighting games ever created.

Mortal Kombat 2011 is an ambitious project in a number of ways. It not only features a wealth of content but took a unique approach to reaffirming the MK brand. The story here actually retells and combines the stories from the first three Mortal Kombat games ever made. That design decision was a huge success with fans, and it was a great way to welcome newbies into the fold.

Something that Mortal Kombat has always done well is cater to the single-player crowd. Modern fighting games tend to alienate gamers that don’t get involved in the competitive scene. MK isn’t like that, and you can find a challenge and a tremendous amount of gameplay and replay value without memorizing dozens of sophisticated command chains.

If Mortal Kombat 2011 did anything wrong, it’s that it continued to support the game through paid content packs. That means that if you bought the original game, you’d still have to pay more to have the entire game in the end. Sure, this is a common practice nowadays, but it’s one embraced by the competitive scene rather than the gamer who likes to kick back with MK a few hours a week.

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition corrects that misstep, and this truly is a complete edition. It has every stage, game mode, character, character skin, weapon and so forth ever created for Mortal Kombat 2011 that wasn’t involved in a special licensing agreement. There are, for instance, certain characters released for the PS Vita version that will never be in any PC version, but it’s complete otherwise.
