Team Fortress 2 is one of the most iconic team-based FPS games ever made.

The original Team Fortress was a mod for Quake and the 1999 Quake remake. Team Fortress 2 is a full-blown game developed by Valve and a sequel to that mod. It doesn’t feature a story or a single-player component at all. Instead, you play on a team of nine facing off against another team of nine. The game is so good at what it does that it remains one of the most popular games online a decade later.

The game features more than a dozen game modes, including a training mode. The training mode is rather elaborate and takes place over a number of stages. It’s a nice touch for a game with players who’ve been playing this for many years.

Its most popular gameplay modes are Arena, Capture the Flag and Control Point. Arena is a team deathmatch mode. CTF challenges teams to score points by seizing enemies’ flags and bringing them to a destination, and Control Point challenges teams to defend zones of control. Control Point also has four sub-modes that change up the gameplay style.

Valve added microtransactions to Team Fortress 2 after the fact. While it’s understandable why companies do this, it’s hard to list it as anything other than a con. Nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning that the drop rates haven’t changed and you can succeed with just the items you collect in game. It’s more or less just an option for those with not enough free time or too much money.
