The Binding of Isaac is a unique fast-paced RPG where you have to save a small child from certain death.

The premise of this game is quite brutal but the gameplay more than makes up for it. The game begins with the player taking control of the protagonist, Isaac, whose mother has been commanded by God to sacrifice to prove her faith.

Isaac doesn’t want to die so he escapes into the basement, and that's where the game begins.

In the basement you’ll find monstrous cast-off siblings, jealous enemies, powerful items that’ll help you on your journey as well as procedurally generated levels that make the game different each time you play.

What really makes this game stand out is that the developer combined such adult themes with cutesy pixel graphics, it’s the perfect recipe for disarming players and creating a truly immersive experience.

If you’re looking for an interesting game that’s never the same twice, you’ll want to give this one a try – just remember that this is definitely not a game you should give young children!

Pros

  • Procedurally Generated Levels Each time you play the game the random level generator gets to work and creates entirely new levels, enemies and drop locations, keeping the game fresh.
  • Fast-Paced Action and Good Controls The enemies can be tough to beat but the simple WASD control interface keeps things from getting too complicated.

Cons

  • Mature Themes, Strong Language Don’t let the cutesy pixel-art style graphics fool you – this game is definitely an adults-only game.
  • Can Be Tough on Older Computers The XNA framework this game was built on is notorious for being processor hungry, so it might not run well on older computers.
