What is Even the Ocean?
You play Aliph, a technician repairing hazardous power plants around Whiteforge City after a workplace accident. You explore towns, talk to residents, and navigate side-view platforming levels using a four-directional shield. Balancing light and dark energy changes your movement: light lets you jump higher, while dark makes you run faster.
For you if...
- +you enjoy story-heavy adventures with environmental themes
- +you want adjustable difficulty and story-only or gameplay-only options
Not for you if...
- −you prefer combat-focused action to environmental puzzle-solving
- −you want cooperative or competitive multiplayer
What players say
85% of 228 reviews are positive
Players praise the puzzle design, responsive controls, and music. The story divides opinion: some praise its themes and ending, while others find the dialogue tedious or the message heavy-handed.

- Notes
- Lower specs on GPU may result in lag @ 60 FPS with in-game resolutions beyond 2x windowed. Low quality 30 FPS option is included in-game which may alleviate lag. Lag may occur when livestreaming the game at 60FPS at resolutions beyond 2x windowed, even on powerful computers (if you have streaming issues: we recommend 30FPS in-game and with your recording software). Please note that very rarely, the sound in-game may drop out for a few seconds.
