What is Maitetsu?

You read dialogue in this single-player visual novel set in Ohitoyo, where Sotetsu and an android-like being named Hachiroku seek an economic alternative to a proposed factory. The dialogue is fully voiced in Japanese, including Sotetsu's lines.
